| Only because I'm tired of saying "Hello. I know I haven't posted in a while..." blah blah blah.
Anywho, still alive and kickin' in Los Lunas. I've had the worst time trying to get on the net down there. Its just rediculous! Computers blowing up left and right, modems disappearing in the night, etc etc.
As a side, Dakota, the littlest brat that lives in my abode, is the most statically charged kid on the planet. The other day he grabbed my wrist as I was walking by, and was shocked really bad. So bad in fact, that my wrist watch was completely reset. He also fried the cordless telephone that same day. Its annoying. To say the least, he's not allowed anywhere near my computer, its bad enough as it is.
So, I'm still job hunting. I've put in applications to what seems like an endless soup of businesses, including Lockheed Martin, Sandia, Los Alamos...etc etc. I also put one in at TVI, and funny enough, that's actually the one I'm hoping for. But we'll see. The thing I hate most about job hunting is the amount of BS that flies from my lips. I'm good at what I do, no doubt, but I feel like I have to make everything sound INCREDIBLE or else people won't listen to me.
Movie, as always, is coming along nicely. Although, I havne't worked on it in like a week. I had a harddisk scare. So I frantically reinstalled my RAID drivers and that seems to have fixed it, but I'm slightly nervous. Does anyone have a good solution for backing up 400GB of information? I'd settle on 200 if I had to, but I can always re-import film, but I'd rather not.
Off to hunt. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| ...down a bit. I'm still not sure what's going on at the house in ABQ. I'm hoping my grandparents will be kind enough to let ninthphoenix stay there until she leaves for the Nether world.
As for Lost Lunas, I'm moved in, settled, and actually, making trememdous progress on my film. I've been really inspired the last few days. I got the entire second reel timed and tracked (which is about 30 mins of film), so all i need to do now is go back and clean up the edits and smooth it all out. I'm thrilled.
And, really it isn't so bad living all the way down there, and I kinda don't miss the internet as much as I thought I would. Which reminds me, catblade, do you have an extra wireless PCMIA...or whatever they're called (geez, I call myself a cs grad) card lying about? I'd love to just head into LL proper and hit the old starbucks for my internet connection. :)
And that's about it...I'll be up in ABQ on Sunday moving stuff, so if you'd like moonsail we should move that desk... | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| So, I'm moving down to Las Lunas tomorrow. I'm probably not going to stay the night there 'til Sunday, just because I want to see squishyent off to the airport and such.
I am really hoping to take this time down there with "free" rent to really work on my film and get that bugger done. It seems like its time. I need to move on. And it would be very unfair to everyone who worked on it, including myself, to not finish it in a timely manner. So here goes to getting it done. :)
Other news...let's see. I'm committing myself to really learn Dutch before I go to the Netherlands this next summer. I figure that if I learn 50 words a week, then by the time I go, I'll have about a 2,000 word vocab, which will be good enough for me. :)
Ah, and I've discovered a really interesting new kind of smoothie, for those of you into healthy things. One thing I have loved doing for years is making banana based fruit smoothies. And recently I've noticed that I don't quite seem to get enough greens into my diet. I love fruit, and I really love salads, I'm just lazy and don't really like taking the time to make a salad and then eat it (when I'm home that is; I seem to have no trouble going to a place like souper salad). Anyways, the new smothie is called a "green smoothie." You essentially make a banana based deal (today I made it with bananas and strawberries), but then you add about four or five leaves of greens (romaine, spinach, whatever...just not iceberg) and perhaps some non-sweet fruits like tomato or cucumber (although I've only experimented with the leafy kind). The fruit part is just sweet enough to balance out the "saltiness" of the leaves and really makes a delicious drink. So that way I can get more greens in without having to really deal with salads. Just FYI for the lazy health enthusiast. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I'm working on a film that's been here for a while now. Its called "Welcome to America" and seems like it'll be cool. I'm working just a few days on the 2nd unit, doing Assistant Director stuff. The cool thing is that we're going to be using a helicopter on Tuesday for some shots on the peak, so take a peak outside somewhere between 10a and 1pm. I'm pretty excited. I've never worked aerials before.
BTW, I'm probably going to start getting my self down to los lunas this wednesday'ish. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| Holy cow. I just watched "Life Is Beautiful" (Vita è bella, La, 1997 by Roberto Benigni). WOW.
All I can say is that I think I shall, from hence forth, be known as "Giosué". | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| The snow in New Mexico this year is, for a lack of a more thought out desciption, crappy. So I get the bright idea of going up to Colorado for the weekend to do a little excercising of the snowboarding skills. I take my "nephew" JZ along with, as he has never seen "real" snow ( any mountain that has a base over 20").
Anxiety ensues.
We make it to Denver with little problem, although I notice that my recently purchased vehicle seems to have a bit of an issue when it comes to hills over the size of a speed bump. But I pay little attention to it and ignore the issue. I also notice I'm getting terrible gas mileage, but I knew about that when I bought the car. It has some fuel/oxygen mix issues and needs the chip reprogrammed/replaced.
The next day, early to rise, and jump out the door for maximum snowboard enjoyment. A traffic jam stands in my way, but no fear, I have a large inventory of patience. So, it's looking like I'll get there just about a half hour later than I wanted, which was fine because I was planning to be early.
I'm now 18 miles from winterpark, and my car suddenly realizes that we're at 12,000 ft. elevation. Jeezy Chreezy we have no oxygen at these levels. Surely no one can breathe! Or at least that's what my car thinks.
It CANNOT get up the hill. At all. Period. I stop at the last place I can stop before heading over the pass and park the car. Now I'm upset, frustrated, and a bit on the panicing side. I came all this way just to get stuck 20 min. away. I think not.
JZ and I jump out and hitchhike the rest of the way. Much to his mother's later disapproval (he's only 15). Oh well.
We ended up having a great time. Fresh powder. High base. Huge park. The world was our burrito. My aunt and uncle in Denver came to our rescue, which turned out not to be necessary because, well, hey, cars coast down hills pretty good regardless of oxygen levels. :) | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| enthralled323 nudged me today and said "Get up off your fat lazy hind quarters and write in your journal!" (my paraphrase), and I thought "Wow...forgot all about lj." So here I am writing.
My roommates are taking off and I'm moving to the nether regions of the abq area (Los Lunas), so there is at least an excuse to stop by lj every now and then, just keep in touch with all. | comments: 7 comments or Leave a comment |
